A large marble niche with columns hosts the Titular Statue of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This niche was designed by Anthony Cuschieri, and the plan was made by Architect Pio Vassallo and Joseph Mercieca. The inner decoration of the niche was made by Anthony Cuschieri as well.
The titular statue which is made of papier-mache was made by Girolamo Darmanin in 1876, The Gold gilded wooden pedestal was made by Carmelo Teuma from Valletta while the gilding was made by Saviour Brincat.
The wooden base was made by Joseph Galea from Luqa, and the bronze sculptures were made by Carmelo Tonna and cast in Bronze by the firm Abela & Sons. The modelling of the panels and angels were made by Anthony Cuschieri from Sliema. The bronze panels depict the Wedding of Cana, the Annunciation, the Birth of Christ and Jesus crucified. On each side are two angels with symbols of virtue. This was completed in 1961.
The statue of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart was vandalised during a robbery that took place in 1949, the crown of the child Jesus and rings were stolen. The parishioners donated gold items so that new crowns were made. These new crowns were made by Silversmith Edward Madiona in 1950 and were placed on the statue until 2017.
On 29th September 2018 the statue of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was crowned with the present crowns we see today by his Grace the Archbishop of Malta Monsignor Charles J Scicluna during an Eucharistic Celebration marking the 100th Anniversary of the setting up of the Parish. The new crowns of the coronation were paid by a benefactor.
The silver halo with rays was made by Silversmith Giuseppe Madiona in 1923.
In 1981 a silver cloud was placed on the base of the statue, this was made by Edward Madiona, son of Giuseppe Madiona.
This statue is carried out in the streets of the parish on the First Sunday of July every year.
On the side of this niche is another niche, which until the new niche of Our Lady was ready, hosted the same statue. Today this niche depicts the statue of St Francis of Assisi made by Michael Camilleri Cauchi in 1989 replacing another statue of St Francis made by Carlo Darmanin which is today in the Convent.
On this niche is a painting depicting St Peter, although no artist signed the painting it is attributed to the school of Mattia Preti.
On the right hand side of the niche of St Francis we can see the 7th station of the Via Crucis in a marble frame.
